Vox Editor Ezra Klein Hacked On Twitter
Security company OurMine has hacked yet another high profile Twitter account, this time successfully infiltrating the account of Vox Media Editor-in-Chief Ezra Klein.
OurMine has been responsible for the hacking of multiple celebrity Twitter accounts following the release of approximately 32 million Twitter account details on the deep web. OurMine advertises itself as a security company, offering to help companies and individuals secure their online accounts from potential hackers.
One of OurMine’s signature tactics is the use of “brute force” attacks — scripts that run through multiple password combinations on a targeted account. Previous victims of OurMine’s brute force password guessing method include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg and Hollywood actor Channing Tatum. OurMine claims such hacks are simply tests of their security service.
Such tests are indeed promoted on their website where they offer a range of services from social media account scans for as little as $30 up to full company scans for a much pricier $5000. Seemingly these services perform the same method that OurMine has used to hack celebrity accounts in order to determine how secure the customers account is.
Vox’s Ezra Klein is just another example of the many accounts hacked. Currently it seems that Klein has regained control of his account and has most likely beefed up security on both Twitter and Vox’s website.
