Comelec website back to normal after hacking

The website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is up and running again on Monday morning after being defaced Sunday night by Anonymous Philippines.

In an interview on dzBB on Monday, Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said they are expecting a report from their Information and Technology Department this morning.

“Magmi-meeting kami ngayong umaga para malaman kung ano ang nangyari at kung ano ang pwedeng gawin para hindi na maulit muli,” Bautista said

In a tweet, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the site has been backed up since 3:15 a.m.

“However, as we continue to scour the site, all databases remain temporarily off,” he tweeted.

Anonymous Philippines defaced the website of Comelec on Sunday night and “requested” that the commission implement security features on Precinct-Count Optical Scanner machines.

Bautista assured the commission will implement all election safeguards this coming polls.

“Lahat ng hinihingi (security features), ipatutupad natin,” he said.

Meanwhile, the poll body is opening biddings for signages, Board of Election Inspectors attires and thermal papers to be used in voting receipts.
