Anonymous Will Begin Latest War on Donald Trump Friday, April Fools’ Day
nonymous hacktivists will have their April Fool’s Day fun tomorrow with the start of the second war on Donald Trump and #OpTrump.
In March alone, the group has trolled Trump with “hacked” personal information(which was already all available online), changed his voicemail greeting and released messages, and posted a video essentially calling Trump a fascist dictator.
But the meatiest #OpTrump attacks previously promised by Anonymous will officially begin on April 1, the group says, with an attack on Chicago’s Trump Tower website.
“This is not a warning, this is a declaration of total war,” an Anonymous spokesperson said in the video posted on March 4. “Operation Trump engaged. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive, we will not forget. Donald Trump, it is too late to expect us.”
Anonymous states that #OpTrump is on a mission to “dismantle his campaign and sabotage his brand.” In response to some of Anonymous’s trolling tactics, Trump has threatened police action and gotten the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI involved. Trump’s strong-handed actions don’t leave many other responses for the Trump Tower hack tomorrow.
If the attack follows the same line as last December’s Anonymous attack on the Trump Tower in New York, hackers will use a Denial of Service (DoS) attack to overload the Chicago Trump Tower website. Anonymous warned Trump to “think twice before you speak anything” when it brought down the Trump Tower NY website. A DoS flood would, of course, keep Trump’s Chicago tower from saying anything at all.
Regardless of what happens on April 1, hackers aligning themselves against Trump have already done harm to the Trump brand without even releasing any damaging information. By enticing Trump to respond to their “leak” of already public information, they showed a side of Trump that everyone already knows: his knee-jerk tendency to drop the hammer hard on people he deems as threats.
Whether #OpTrump’s April Fools’ Day events will be able to take the moves a step further or just keep the hacks on the same narrative, the Trump Tower Chicago website will be something to keep an eye on tomorrow. Because, let’s face it: No matter your political orientation, there are always a few chuckles to be had when the internet messes with The Donald.
